Transforming Food Systems for a Sustainable Tomorrow.
Transforming Food Systems for a Sustainable Tomorrow.
At CDEO, we believe that resilient agrifood systems are the cornerstone of thriving rural livelihoods, environmental restoration, and a food-secure future for Tanzania. In a world facing climate change, land degradation, and growing inequality, we work hand-in-hand with smallholder farmers, pastoralists, youth, and women to build systems that not only withstand shocks—but evolve beyond them.
Our mission is rooted in climate-smart innovation, inclusive agribusiness, and locally led solutions that respect indigenous knowledge and empower communities to lead their own development. From restoring soil fertility and improving household nutrition, to connecting farmers with markets and vital information, we are transforming the future of food—one village, one season, and one partnership at a time.
Together, we are cultivating sustainability, dignity, and opportunity—growing a better Tanzania for generations to come.
CDEO is a Tanzanian non-profit organization committed to empowering rural communities to adapt, innovate, and flourish in the face of growing environmental and economic challenges. Rooted in community participation and backed by research, we work at the intersection of agriculture, climate action, and social development to drive lasting change. Our vision is clear: food systems that are climate-smart, nutrition-sensitive, market-led, and inclusive for all.
We address the most pressing challenges in Tanzania’s agrifood systems by focusing on six core areas of impact. From climate-smart agriculture and land restoration to agri-enterprise development and digital innovation, our work ensures food production is not only productive but also equitable and sustainable. Every initiative we lead is tailored to the unique needs of local communities, ensuring they are equipped to bounce forward—not just back—after every crisis.
We support smallholder farmers, pastoralists, and communities to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices, restore degraded land, and build resilience against climate shocks.
We empower youth and women-led agri-enterprises by strengthening value chains, enhancing access to finance, and facilitating market linkages.
We integrate nutrition into agriculture by promoting diverse, nutrient-rich crops and behavior change for healthy diets.
We offer flexible, community-based learning for adults—including farmers, youth, and women entrepreneurs. Training covers functional literacy and numeracy, digital and financial skills, agribusiness and cooperative governance, climate-smart practices, and nutrition.
We expand access to safe water and sanitation by rehabilitating boreholes, installing rainwater harvesting, and promoting household water treatment and safe storage. Community programs build habits in handwashing, menstrual health, and food hygiene, while local WASH committees and artisans are trained to maintain systems..
We work with villages to protect forests, rangelands, and water sources through hands-on learning and locally led action. Community sessions and eco-clubs cover soil and water conservation, sustainable harvesting, fire management, and human–wildlife coexistence—building on indigenous knowledge.
